PADI IDC - Instructor Development Course
The PADI instructor Development Course is made up of two main parts, each having their own requirements for candidates to pass;
- Assistant Instructor Course (AI)
- Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI)
Aqua Vision's Course Director and IDC Staff Instructors will make sure that each candidate is fully prepared to take part in the IDC and pass the PADI Instructor Excam (IE) after completing the course.
After completing the AI and OWSI courses to the required standards, we will submit your entry for a PADI Instructor Examination (IE) which will be conducted by a PADI Professional Instructor examiner.

AI Course Requirements
To take part in the Assistant Instructor Course, you will need to be 18 years old and a certified PADI Divemaster or Equivalent from another diver training agency (SSI, BSAC, NAUI etc).
You will also need to properly prepare for the course by having completed the independent study Knowledge Reviews before the course begins.
The AI Section of the IDC will consist of..
- Recommended 40 hours over 3 - 4 days
- Attend 6 curriculum session after the Orientation
- Conduct 2 Confined Water (CW) presentations with a minimum score of 3.4
- Conduct 2 Knowledge Development presentations with a minimum score of 3.5
- Conduct 1 Open Water (OP) presentation integrating 2 skills with a minimum score of 3.5
- Participate in 1 Open Water training session.
- Pass the 5 dive theory exams (physics, physiology, RDP, Skills and Environment and Equipment with a score of 75% or higher
- Earn 82 points overall with no score lower than 3.0 on the 24 Skill Evaluation Circuit
- Complete an 800m swim using mask snorkel and fins
OWSI Course Requirements
To take part in the OWSI Course, you will need to be 18 years old and a certified PADI Assistant Instructor or Equivalent from another dive agency (SSI, BSAC, NAUI etc).
You will also need to properly prepare for the course by having completed the independent study Knowledge Reviews before the course begins.
The OWSI Section of the IDC will consist of..
- Recommended 50 hours training over 6 days
- Attend 13 curriculum sessions after the Orientation
- Conduct 2 Confined Water (CW) presentations with a minimum score of 3.4
- Conduct 2 Knowledge Development presentations with a minimum score of 3.5
- Conduct 1 Open Water (OP) presentation integrating 2 skills with a minimum score of 3.5
- Participate in the Adventure Diver and Rescue Diver course workshops
- Participate in 3 Open Water training sessions
- Pass the 5 dive theory exams (physics, physiology, RDP, Skills and Environment and Equipment with a score of 75% or higher
- Earn 82 points overall with no score lower than 3.0 on the 24 Skill Evaluation Circuit
- Complete an 800m swim using mask snorkel and fins
