The Aftermath Of The Tsunami In Thailand
A few words from the Aqua Vision staff..
The devastating tidal waves that struck the South of Thailand on Boxing Day caused a large amount of destruction, injury and unfortunately death in the Krabi region. Thankfully although Aqua Visions dive boats were both at Phi Phi at the time, no one aboard was seriously injured;
The management at Aqua Vision would like to thank and commend all of the crew, staff and guests on board all the dive boats from Ao Nang and Krabi for the rescue and relief work they carried out for the remainder of that terrible day, a terrible tragedy would have been much worse without the assistance you all provided.
We would also like to extend our deep and sincere sympathy to the families of all of our friends in Ao Nang and Krabi who's loved have lost their lives or are missing as a result of the events on Boxing Day, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
For all the notes of sympathy, the telephone calls and the e-mails we have received from so many friends around the world we would like to say an enormous thank you, every word of warmth we have received has been a great comfort.
Good luck and a happy new year to you all. |

It's now more than 2 months since the Tsunami and things are looking a lot rosier in Krabi. First of all the diving this season is the best we have had for several years the conditions are excellent water clarity is much higher than average and there are a LOT of big fish about.. 6 -8 Whale Sharks together in one group at Hin Bida last week.
Secondly the visitors are starting to return and although in no where near the usual amounts, every person makes a difference. It's a happy town again and with many new restaurants, a few bars and businesses, there's plenty going on and it's still not at all crowded.

Now that recovery and clear up operations are 90% complete we are again making regular dive trips to most of our usual sites, we will not be diving at the main Island of Phi Phi or at some of the other bays that were badly affected by the Tsunami.
We are very happy to report that damage to the dive sites is at worst minimal and in most cases completely unnoticeable, at the moment the clarity of the water is 15 to 20 meters, and since there are so few divers at the sites, there has never been a better time to dive - it won't last long, as word gets out we hope to see people returning to Ao Nang in their usual numbers over the next few months, so if you're thinking of coming - best do it soon! Dive Sites
So please, come and help out by making a visit to Krabi, we will be giving an especially warm welcome to everyone who continues with their plans to visit in the next few weeks.

One Week Later and just as we feared the Governments of most European nations have hit the panic button, recalling all of their citizens from Thailand.
This is despicable, uncalled for and absolutely the opposite of what the region needs.
Looking on the bright side of things it seems likely that there are going to be some very cheap flights available, and discounts available at many hotels who are now trying desperately to fill their mostly empty rooms, and to salvage something out of the insulting damage that the European Governments have added to an already terrible situation.
The Thai people have lost enough already, and having done so much for the survivors of the Tsunamis as well as the families of those who were not so lucky, we should all do everything we can to return there kindness and care.

On a brighter note, today, three days after the events, it is already hard to tell in most places that anything has happened. everyone here is working so hard to return things back to the way they were, even through their grief. Please make it worth their while by making a visit, Krabi has suffered through one disaster, it would another disaster to the local people if visitors stopped coming.
